Model Train Layout
Model Railroad Layout Changes
The train station has a model train layout located in the basement of the building. The layout is fairly extensive. It's an HO scale design, double tracked with multiple reversing loops, several passing sidings and a yard area.
Due to the renovations required to reopen the station and meet the requirements of the B&O Railroad Museum the layout needs to be relocated.
Because of the shear size of the current layout, moving it is not an option. The layout needs to be dismantled and removed. The plan is to dismantle the layout and create a new layout in another location in the train station. The intent is to reuse parts of the current layout when possible.
One change to the new layout will be the ability to move or take down the display as required. Building a modular layout has many advantages over a fixed display. One advantage is the ability to add, remove, or change out modules to reflect seasons, events and time periods. Another is the ability to move the layout to another location for display to promote the Train Station to general interest in visiting the station and the surrounding area.
To complete this portion of the project it would be ideal for a group of like minded, interested people to come together to form a train club to manage these changes.
